Giving someone power of attorney means you trust them fully with your financial situation. But sometimes, the attorney takes advantage of that power. And more often than not, it is the elderly who is abused and hurt. It is important that if you suspect that there is a power imbalance between an elder person and her attorney you let someone know. The BC government has a list of organizations you can call if you suspect that someone is being abused or mistreated, alternatively call a lawyer who practices in Power Of Attorney matters and can act immediately.
